Sabyasachi Sarkar(Biography)
Sabyasachi Sarkar (17th May, 1947) is working in diverse fronts of chemistry closely related to natural set up of particular emphasis on functional models of hyperthermophilic to mesophilic metalloproteins emphasizing enzymatic oxotransfer reactions differing Eyring activated complex based chemical oxotransfer reaction . He demonstrated CO2 bound magnesium in chlorophyll in photosynthesis as thought by Willstätter. The rare reaction of a Cu(II) complex with aerial oxygen to generate superoxide anion and Cu(III) has been shown to address Fridovich’s native SOD reaction. He made functional models of Ni-thiolate and Fe-S cubane clusters based hydrogenase and NO-synthase and also worked on ROS. He showed the architectural marvel in silk cocoon with the natural thermostatic and humidity control with preferential oxygen gating inside and carbon dioxide gating outside from the cocoon as green house architecture. He proposed a new magneto reception for nocturnal moth in sensing the Earth's magnetic field to navigate with a stable pool of carbon-centric free radicals with ferromagnetic components. Since 2104, he has explored water soluble non toxic nano carbons made from cheap sources to demonstrate their use in plant growth, in bioimaging of living animals and as drug cargo to cross blood brain barrier. He showed that nano carbons induce anoxia to mosquito larvae and under suitable condition nano carbon has been shown to kill hospital pathogens. Presently he is working to trap cosmic energy using carbon to generate energy day and night from the environment as better alternative of silicon based solar energy. He also mapped the degradation of Heritage monument, Taj Mahal. Guided 46 PhD, 200 M.Sc, M.Tech theses, ( Google Scholar Citation : h-index-33 ,h-10 –index – 318 ) . Humboldt Fellow, DAAD Fellow, Research Fellow INSA, F.A.Sc, ; FRSC, Fellow Indian Chemical Society
